ADVANCED ADA-COMPLIANT DOCUMENT PRODUCTION
Complex documents. Multiple authors. Stringent formatting requirements. Section 508 compliance. Cohesive formatting for complex documents is almost as much work as creating the content itself. I provide ‘last step’ services, pulling your complex documents together into a cohesive whole, ensuring that:
- Chapter and section numbering is automated, ensuring that any later revisions or corrections maintain correct sequencing.
- Citations are properly linked and managed, with a correct bibliography and/or Table of Authorities.
- Cross references are properly linked, without duplicate bookmarks.
- Table of Contents, Figures, Tables, etc are correctly created and linked.
- Page numbering is correct and where needed, chapter numbers are included.
- Ensuring your document meets or exceeds Section 508 accessibility requirements as set by state and federal governments.
I work within the confines of your style guide to ensure that your complex documents meet all brand specifications. I pay attention to the details as I work, providing you with a list of any items such as incomplete sentences/captions that may need correction, items that may require source citation, and elements that are not Section 508 compliant and should be corrected. If your document will be printed, I provide print-ready PDF services as well as Section 508 compliance for PDF files created from your Word documents. Let me help you get your project deliverable over the finish line so you can be faster to the starting blocks on your next project!
CUSTOMIZED LEARNING FOR MICROSOFT WORD
Helping you master Microsoft Word begins with a virtual meeting to discuss your pain points and to review the document you would like to me to recreate for use during our training sessions. I don’t just show you what buttons to push – I teach you concepts that will vastly improve your troubleshooting skills when working with Word. I create a personalized program for you, using YOUR document, ensuring you get the specific, focused help you need to be more productive.
General topics covered during the sessions include:
- Using Styles for consistent formatting
- Mastering differing formats and layouts using Sections
- Automating repetitive tasks using Auto-Text
- Using Developer tools to create form fields and locked content
- Creating headers and footers that look great and stay where you put them!
- Table of Contents, footnotes, endnotes, and indices, as required by your documents
- Building and using templates (including the template you use every day without realizing it!)
I begin by rebuilding the document of your choice as a Word template. The problem with cookie-cutter Word training is that it is generic and non-specific. I find people learn best using documents they are familiar with and resolving pain points specific to their their work. I tailor the training to YOU and at the end of our program, you have a completed template, ready for use, that serves as a reference for moving forward with the remainder of your document library.
The complexity of your documents, as well as your comfort level with Word dictates how many sessions you’ll need to be ready to move forward using Word with confidence. A minimum of three sessions plus our initial diagnostic meeting are usually needed to cover all of the features in your revamped document and prepare you to move forward with confidence using your new-found knowledge to create templates for the remainder of your document library. Of course, if you don’t have the resources or time to rework your document library, I can do that for you while still teaching you everything you need to know to understand how to maintain and build on the templates I have built for you.
After each session, I will create a custom video covering all of the topics we discussed, including extra material covering any questions that come up during the training. The videos are provided to you in MP4 format, which you can save on your computer or network and refer to any time you need a refresher!
